First Aid.
For several months the Trustees have been trying to arrange a first aid course. Originally it was going to be Titchfield Festival Theatre’s first aider but when they went into administration we had to start again. John Rawlinson agreed to take over and applied to Hampshire CC for help. They were helpful and we were pleased to welcome their First Aid trainer Paul Pritchard Using one of TFT’s large rehearsal rooms 12 FMS members attended and it did prove to be a bit of a challenge. The big trouble was that there were no windows, just two huge fans sucking the air out, they did work very well but sounded like a jet engine. Anyway after carrying out the obligatory risk assessment it was decided to carry on regardless. Paul Prichard introduced himself as our instructor and we got down to business. First a discussion about MGR or in laymans terms, how to do a 2 second risk assessment of the situation before attempting anything - these risk assessments get everywhere these days but it certainly makes sense here. Then tea break, it was needed at this point to replace all of the lost electrolyte due to the heat. Then onto checking for respiratory activity and the recovery position. Muggins got volunteered as the guinea pig, at least I could have a bit of a laydown, it's getting up that's the difficult bit. I thought that I would try and make Paul work for a bit here so tried holding my breath as if I was dead but he spent so much time explaining it all that I just had to breathe otherwise he would have had a real fatality to deal with. Anyway, that bit finished with quite successfully and onto Resusci-Alex, Annie couldn't make it this time so they sent the other half instead. Onto the exciting bit - giving people electric shocks, but nicely. Muggins again, this time with DaveM as the checker and me getting ready to deliver the shocks.

I must admit that I have always been a little dubious of these machines but it really is very easy as the machine talks you all the way through.
So if you are ever in need of first aid here are the people to check for:-
